Restart Ohio Higher Education Statement
In response to Governor DeWine’s announcement on the reopening of Ohio’s public universities and additional federal funding made available to higher education through the CARES Act, the Inter-University Council of Ohio offers the following statements:
“Governor Mike DeWine has demonstrated astounding leadership throughout the Covid-19 pandemic. He has sought input from experts in higher education and listened to our concerns. Today he has announced a well-reasoned approach to safely opening higher education institutions to quality, in-person education this fall. We appreciate his commitment to assisting our institutions with the enormous financial challenge associated with ensuring that our students, faculty, and staff are safe. His leadership makes us proud to be citizens of the great state of Ohio.” – Bruce Johnson, President of the Inter-University Council.
“We applaud Governor DeWine’s support for higher education in Ohio. His commitment to collaboration and willingness to listen are hallmarks of his extraordinary leadership style. We are thankful that the Governor recognizes the incredible challenge that public universities face in safely operating our campuses this fall. The Governor clearly understands the importance of educational attainment and with these additional funds is helping to ensure a safe restart for higher education in Ohio.” Neville Pinto – President, University of Cincinnati and Chairman of the Inter-University Council of Ohio.
