Inter-University Council of Ohio Thanks Governor DeWine for Higher Education Support in FY22-FY23 Operating Budget

[Columbus]: Bruce Johnson, president of the Inter-University Council of Ohio (IUC), issued the following statement today regarding Governor DeWine’s rollout of the Fiscal Years 2022 and 2023 state operating budget and the Governor’s continuing strong support for higher education.  The funding proposed over the next two fiscal years for Ohio’s public universities will be used to ensure that our public universities maintain the highest level of quality for our students and for the critical services we provide those students on campus every day.

“On behalf of Ohio’s public universities and over 390,000 students we serve, the IUC greatly appreciates the Governor’s strong support for our institutions and the work they do.  Clearly, Governor DeWine understands the value of a higher education and the importance of earning a degree – both at the undergraduate and graduate level – from a public university in Ohio.  The investment he is making will ensure that the educational opportunities our institutions offer will continue to be of the highest quality and value, earning the student the greatest return on their investment possible.

At his press conference, the Governor indicated how important it is to him to attract people to Ohio and position our state as the place to be, to showcase Ohio, its affordable quality of life and what it has to offer.  We wholeheartedly support that effort and believe that our public universities have much to offer and a key role to play as we help facilitate the rise of Ohio’s future leaders and provide the best pathway to students who seek economic opportunity.

Because of the Governor’s support in this budget for research and development, for at-risk students who receive the Ohio College Opportunity Grant, for those studying in the STEMM fields through the Choose Ohio First program, and for meeting the challenges brought on by a global pandemic, Ohio’s public universities will have the resources needed to not only ensure a robust and stimulating learning environment but to help make our campuses and communities a healthier and safer place to live and work.

We thank the Governor for his continuing support during the COVID crisis and pledge to work with him during budget deliberations.  We look forward to hearings in the Ohio House and Senate and are confident members of the General Assembly will want to build on the Governor’s impressive vision.”
