The Cybersecurity Pilot Project marks the launch of the IUC Collaborative Initiatives journey. From September 2023 to March 2024, IUC staff led a 9-month brainstorming effort supported by Huron Consulting.

The ideas from this effort were compiled and presented to the IUC BFO Committee as a prioritized list. The IUC BFO Committee determined that Cybersecurity was the most pressing and impactful area for IUC schools to work on together due to the rapidly evolving threat landscape.

A major strength of the IUC Cybersecurity Pilot Project is how it began - Chief Information Security Officers (CISOs) from all 14 public universities played an active role in designing the detailed, step-by-step action plan. Their collective expertise, shared insights into current threats, and unified approach were key to building a strong strategy.
